4 Hebrews 13:15 Through Him then, let us continually Offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, The fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

5 Exodus 12:2 "This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you” The first feastEx 12:2 "This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you.

6 The Importance of a Calendar
Calendars reveal a people’s identity Our days of the week – Pagan, Roman Our months of the year – Roman Calendar changes Story of the Julian calendar – Julius Caesar wanted to put everyone on a common calendar Soviets moved the calendar

7 The Year Begins The calendar for God’s people began with Passover - In essence, THEY began with Passover - Ten plagues separated them from Egypt Today, Jesus is our Passover – 1 Corinthians 5:7 - We begin our “time” with Him Ex 8:23 "I will put a division between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign will occur."‘ 1Co 5:7 ¶ Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.

8 First of the Year Lessons
The Passover Feast was meant to begin the year Exodus 12 This meant that the first lessons taught: Sin is slavery Be ready to go God’s blessings require obedience

9 Sin is Slavery Romans 8:16-23 Our first sins sold us into slavery The death of the firstborn set us free Do we choose to leave or remain in sin Do we choose to return to sin? Number 14:4 Nu 14:4 So they said to one another, "Let us appoint a leader and return to Egypt."

10 Be Ready To Go Prepared to travel - Exodus 12 Unleavened bread – no time to rise! The surprise return of Jesus Matthew 24:44 The danger of a life without God James 4:13-17 Mt 24:44 "For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will. Jas 4:13 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit." 14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. 15 Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that." 16 But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil. 17 Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.

11 God’s Blessings Require Obedience
Exodus 11:7 verses Exodus 12:7 Salvation requires obedience God’s grace is to OFFER us a paid-for salvation We must choose to accept it by obedience Ex 11:7 'But against any of the sons of Israel a dog will not even bark, whether against man or beast, that you may understand how the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.'

12 It Begins With Being Born Again
Nation of Israel began when they left Egypt - They believed when they left - They were free when they crossed the sea Born Again by the water and the Spirit - Led TO the water BY the Spirit - Freedom was purchased by blood Ex 11:7 'But against any of the sons of Israel a dog will not even bark, whether against man or beast, that you may understand how the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.'

13 It Begins With Being Born Again
This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth John 5:6 Ex 11:7 'But against any of the sons of Israel a dog will not even bark, whether against man or beast, that you may understand how the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.'
