1 Portfolio Project Stephanie Groover

2 Client Background: Arianna
I have been working with a 13 year old girl named Arianna. She has lived with her grandmother, aunt, and younger siblings since she was eight. It is a very sad situation because she has no contact with her mother or father. Arianna and her grandmother will go through stages and they will not get along and her grandmother threatens to send her away. Arianna believes that she will not remain in her grandmother’s care for more than a year. Just like any other teenager Arianna would chose to live with her friends but that is not possible in this case. However, since Arianna is happy for the most part living with her family, her second choice is to continue to live there. According to Arianna, her grandmother thinks she will end up a “drug addict” just like her mother and will always stay in trouble with the police. Arianna perceives that her grandmother has negative expectations for her future. In fact, Arianna was arrested near her home after she was in a fight and she tested positive for alcohol and marijuana. Since Arianna has gotten in trouble her grandmother has attempted to supervise her more carefully, but Arianna says her grandmother still doesn’t know where she is or what she is doing most of the time. Arianna has a very positive outlook about her future and expects she will be happy and successful. She does not want to be anything like her mother. She also expects that she will graduate from high school, go to college, and get a job. Arianna said that she wanted to be a lawyer or someone who works to get teenagers off the streets.
