PUBLIC UTILITY MANAGEMENT MODELS Here, a Public Utility Company (GWCL) owns the utility on behalf the public and has entered into a 5-year management contract with a private utility company (AVRL) since 2006 Utility-Community-Private Partnerships – Utility Initiative This includes Holding Tanks in Wa, Water Kiosk being piloted in Bolgatanga, AVRL Tanker Services Operation in Accra Utility-Civil Society-Community-Private Partnerships – NGO initiative WaterAid’s project at the Zabon Zongo under the West Africa Cities project, WaterAid’s Project (through PRONET Accra) at Old Ningo Utility-Civil Society-Water Board-Private Partnerships PURC’s (in collaboration with WaterAid and AVRL) project at South Teshie (also at Nima and Glefe)

COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT OPERATED BY WSDB Here, District Assemblies are the Legal Owners of the facilities, WSDBs are in charge of operation and maintenance of the facilities and employ personnel to see to That DA-WSDB (with hired professionals staff) Partnerships This is the most common innovation within COM management approach. DA-WSDB-WATSAN Partnerships WSDB supplies bulk water to decentralised/sub-community level for distribution by watsans (common in Northern Region under EU and AFD project) Community-Utility Bulk Supply Partnership The utility supplies bulk water to the community and the distribution is managed by the community’s Water Board (Savelugu)

The WSDB supervises the activities of the operator This was first piloted in Bekwai, Atebubu, Wassa Akropong and Enchi
