JJYL’s No-risk equipment loaner program for boys
In 2016, John Jay Youth Lacrosse launched an equipment loaner program for boys and girls in grades K - 4, offering equipment at no charge to new players. The program expanded in 2017 to include any new to JJYL registrants in grades K – 8 and was opened for both our Fall and Spring seasons. The way the program works is simple. Parents/guardians register for the program at provide a credit card deposit for the cost of the equipment (at the JJYL discounted price). A waiver must be on file, signed by parent/guardian in order to participate. At the end of the season, players can keep the equipment and forfeit their deposit, or return the equipment and receive their full deposit back. To qualify for the loaner program, players must be a first time registrant to John Jay Youth Lacrosse and reside in the Katonah-Lewisboro school district.. Boys get a helmet, stick, shoulder pads, arm pads, and gloves. You must provide your own cleats, protective cup, mouthguard and water bottle. To participate, you must register at — for boys this is in addition to registering for the Spring Season. In order to manage our inventory of gear, the loaner program has strict deadlines for when registration closes and for when gear must be returned. If you miss the registration deadlines we cannot guarantee loaner gear, there is also a $50 fee for gear returned late and a cutoff date for returning gear where you will forfeit your deposit (due dates will be listed in registration and on our website for the most current season).

Our Spring Season for Boys
K-1 Spring Season Our K-1 spring program for boys focuses on the fundamentals of the game and good sportsmanship. In the spring season we typically offer six 90-minute skill sessions. We will split the teams up by grade as much as possible (so only K vs K, 1 vs 1) and run them through 90 minute clinics and scrimmages. We have a mix of paid and parent volunteer coaches running the clinics, and typically have guest players from the varsity lacrosse team helping when possible. There is the possibility of having scrimmages against other teams, but will require parent volunteers to help arrange and manage. (Contact if you would like to help coach or volunteer in any way – at the K-2 level we rely on parent volunteers to help coach and arrange games). Grades 2-8 Spring Season All other teams (2nd through 8th) typically practice 1-3 times per week and play games and enter tournaments against other town teams in the spring season.

Spring Team Evaluations for Boys in Grades 5-8
Jay Youth Lacrosse holds evaluations (two sessions), typically in March, for boys and girls in Grades 5th through 8th for the upcoming spring season. We do these evaluations before each spring season in order to create appropriate teams based on grade and ability for 5-8 grade only. K-4 do not participate in evaluations. All players will be placed on a team. Players are expected to attend both sessions.

JJYL Uniform Policy for Boys
JJYL introducing a new approach to uniforms in 2018 for boys. Instead of ordering new uniforms each year and building that cost into registration, we have locked in on a uniform style and all existing players have the option of keeping their uniform from 2017 or 2018 season, or order a new uniform separate from the registration fee. The way it will work on the boy’s side: If your son played in the 2017 or 2018 seasons, they can continue to use their uniform or order a new one for the season All new players will be required to have a reversible black and white JJYL jersey and JJYL shorts. If you do not order your uniform by the deadline (typically mid-February), you will not have a jersey for the 2018 Spring Season. JJYL Uniform Exchange on Facebook JJYL has launched a JJYL Uniform Exchange on Facebook where families can buy, sell, trade or donate uniforms to other JJYL families: JJYL is not involved in the transactions and is simply creating this group as a service to our members. See next page for what our uniforms for 2019 Spring season will look like these:
