Be Collaborative. Be Innovative. Be Agile.
Introduction to the Agile and Scrum Model
3
Speak about the history of Agile in other work realms.

In School Classrooms In School Leaders Agile for education
Classroom prevalence across the nation (locally - Henrico, Goochland - two districts touching CCPS); Elementary, Middle, High levels As our audience is focused on school and district leadership, we will be sharing e examples later during our session on Agile at the leadership level - MS Principals; C&I, Gifted Builds collaboration Outside of dept Product focused Model for students

Do we ever hear criticism in education like… We work in silos
Do we ever hear criticism in education like… We work in silos. The left hand doesn’t know what the right is doing. The Central Office level forgets what it is like to be in the schools. It is too top down. They forget the kids. Well, wouldn’t it be great to have an amazing workplace with a true team approach that can quiet those critics? Well, that means that we may need to change how we work. And that brings us to the Agile Work Management system. (Q: How many here have heard of Agile? Used an Agile approach?) The end goal of introducing Scrum is an Agile Framework in which we learn how to work with each other and to manage how we get tasks done. Team members as servant leaders are critical to the success of the team. True servant leaders are constantly asking themselves what can I do help my team members be successful. When team members act in this capacity the team is able to plan, execute and remove impediment very fluidly,

SCRUM Team /skrem/ Noun RUGBY An ordered formation of players who push against an opposing team to reach a common goal. A software development framework for managing product development in self-selected teams. A framework for learning how to work with each other and to manage how we get tasks done. First, the silly word most often associated with Agile work -- let’s get it out of the way. SCRUM. I literally have a MS principal who giggles every time I say SCRUM or SCRUM MASTER. Several defs here. We are looking at #3.

It’s important to remember that Scrum Masters are not in charge of the group, the group is in charge. Scrum Masters need to remember that their job is to help the group stay organized. The SCRUM Board Backlog Doing Done
11
SCRUM Board Samples Scrum boards can be paper or electronic. Measurements can be taken off some electronic programs to allow for analysis of work pace and completion. The boards also serve to visually show where each team member is in the work.
12
Tracking Multiple SCRUM Teams
Information Radiators - Describe how multiple teams can report progress on information radiators.
13
Timing Some differences when working in education vs. software development that we have found-- We have other jobs We have longer cycles… For example, (AN - share C&I cycle, SP - share MS princ cycle) Sprints 4 weeks Stand ups -- S1 -- once a week S2 -- every other week Ceremony at Dept mtg -- Retrospective
14
Sprint Zero Sprint Stand Up -- S1 Scrum of the Scrums -- S2
Create your Scrum Group norms Decide what your Scrum Board will look like Brainstorm the tasks Create your Quality Criteria Sprint Each scrum member will take on individual tasks and get to work Get your story and all the tasks to completion FAIL FORWARD Stand Up -- S1 Answers these 1.What did I do that helped reach our current goal? 2. What will I do to help reach accomplish our goal? 3. What challenges are keeping me from reaching the goal? Scrum of the Scrums -- S2 Describe sprint.
15
Retrospective Important reflection on the process of Agile
Making teams communicate better, work better Describe demo.

#agileCCPS #oneCCPS “I LOVED THIS!!! What a fun, engaging, fast moving way to brainstorm and act on your plan. I find that too many people like to talk things to death and never take action. I'm a action-oriented person, and I love the solutions we provided for teachers. The feedback was so helpful and meaningful throughout the entire process.” See handout and electronic container 1 AGILE model info 5 PPC scrumboards 1 scrummaster - 3 to 5 members in each PPC Product owners – colleagues not in the PPC Members – developers (engagement, civic and service leadership, literacy, innovation) Resources Shared will be housed here – Common article reads, PRACTICES at each school 1 Twitter posts related area 1 CALENDAR showing PPC related stuff each month 1 CLASSROOM use of AGILE 4 (September, November, February, April) flipped meeting agendas - TIME to TRY

Translating Agile to Education
Individuals and interactions over processes and tools; Meaningful learning over the measurement of learning; Stakeholder collaboration over constant negotiation; Responding to change over following a plan. There is translation work required, but there are tenets that are also perfectly aligned to our work in education. Agile Manifesto translated to education (activity at the end for them to brainstorm what agile can emphasize for them as they carry out work in a new way.)
