1 CHARACTER DARE Intro to Leadership CS 210

2 LEARNING TARGET I can explain the 4 stages of character development and identify ways to improve character.

3 What are you grateful for today and why?
1 What is one compliment you received yesterday that was impactful to you? Why? 2 What are you grateful for today and why? Allow for SILENT writing time. After a bit let them share with each other, and then with the whole class.

4 Video Announcements.

5 Video about growing the brain
Video about growing the brain. If you think they need to see it twice go for it.

6 What did you see or hear on the video that stuck out to you?
What happens in our brain when we intentionally work on different skills or actions than what we are used to doing? Have kids reflect in the journals, then share with their table, then the class.

7 LOOKING BACK Have the kids explain each stage for you!

8 The Dare Hand out the purple sheets and have the kids glue them in.
Please explain that we will be using this reflection sheet to track our character work.

10 What did you do for others today?
Have kids reflect in the journals, then share with their table, then the class.

11 THE DARE Character is who you are and is built by the thousands of choices you make daily. The key to developing strong character is practice. You will not be required to do each dare – it is a choice that you make and we hope that you will make it not only for your own personal character development, but also because it will improve your relationships with those closest to you and make our school and community a better place.

12 Everyday that we meet for the next 10 school days, you will reflect on how the previous day’s CharacterDare went, or your thoughts on the challenge, and also be provided a new CharacterDare of the day.

13 Go over the dare and challenge students to be intentional, push their comfort zone, and start improving their relationships and character today! Teacher Note: Each day, the CharacterDare page connected with that day will be included in the lesson plan as well as the visual that you can post on the screen. Teacher Note: Throughout the CharacterDare process do not get hung up and worried about whether students are doing each of the CharacterDares or not. Trust the process of asking the question that is not getting asked each day (What are you doing for others?) and that the process – of either reflecting on student’s experience in attempting the dare or speaking their truth about what they think about the dare – is having an impact.

14 Have the kids read each paragraph to you.

15 If character is who you are, then why is it important that we intentionally work on our character each day through these challenges? Teacher Note: During this conversation, really help students to see that because of the habit element, students should not be thinking that they will start working on their character when they get older, but that they should start doing the work now! The older you get, the harder it is to change.

16 Thinking about Character Dare #1:
FINAL THOUGHTS Thinking about Character Dare #1: What is going to be the most challenging about this dare?
