1 August 16, 2018 On your notes from yesterday, or on a new sheet of paper. Brainstorm a list of famous speeches. Do you know of any famous speeches, do you recall any famous lines from a speech. Jot down what you can recall or think of. Now turn to your seat-mate and share your list. Ask them if they’ve ever heard of these speeches. Now look at your lists together and see if you can come up with ideas about what made these speeches famous? Memorable? Quotable?

2 So What Makes a Good Speech Good?

3 Famous Speeches? Why do we always come up with the same couple of speeches? What makes us think of these speeches? Have you actually ever watched them? Today we’re going to watch some speeches. As you watch you want to keep a list of “good” and “bad” traits of these speeches.

11 August 17, 2018 I recognize that I’ve moved the desks, sit where you’d like for today. These will be your groups for today’s assignment. Please take out notes from yesterday on characteristics of good/bad speeches. If you haven’t passed in your yellow academic integrity form – it’s due today. Each group collect them in a pile, I’ll collect them momentarily.

13 Let’s Practice You will be divided into groups.
Each group will rotate around the room to complete each station. Each station has some information to read and share, and an activity to help you practice your qualities of a good speech. You will have 8 minutes to complete each station and 1 minute to move from station to station. Please listen for the bell to signal you to move. I’ll be circulating the room to help you complete your tasks.
