19. Remove Valves Valve spring compressor 2 big flathead screwdrivers
Store springs with valves

20. Remove Crankcase Cover
Remove rust from PTO shaft
Tap to break gasket seal
Remove any oil pumps / slingers

21. Remove Camshaft Locate timing marks Remove any oil pumps / slingers
Inspect lobes for wear
Wear indicates low oil

22. Remove Valve Lifters Exhaust lifter near threaded port
Mark each lifter: tape, paint, grind

23. Remove Piston & Connecting Rod
Punch marks, mating surfaces
Unbolt connecting rod
Push piston out through top

24. Remove Crankshaft
Inspect journals
Observe any thrust washers

25. Remove Piston Rings Remove piston rings Check ring gap
Replace if necessary

26. Oil Seals
Remove seals with screwdriver
Replace if needed

27. Remove Muffler Penetrating oil Heat Oil filter wrench
Flywheel strap wrench
