Sexuality In Media Sexuality in media is tremendously important. When people of different shapes, sizes, and beliefs are able to express their sexuality in the face of millions, it helps others whom are similar feel more accepted in society. Though sexuality in media is a very controversial topic regarding youth, it silences stereotypes across the board for people who have been made to feel they should be ashamed. Media contributes to the stability of society's self-esteem by appealing to our sexuality. That is functionalism.

Sexuality In Media Not only is sexuality in media expanding for homosexuality it has also soared with tremendously for women: Women of color ("light-skinned" is no longer the only form to depict as sexy) Plus- Sized Women Women Over the Age of 40

Sexuality In Family Studies estimate that between 1 and 9 million children in the United States have at least one parent who is lesbian or gay. The rise in same-sex parenting is partially due to the increase in options available for same-sex couples to become parents.
9
Sexuality In Family Most research studies show that children with two moms or two dads fare just as well as children with heterosexual parents. Teens with same-sex parents reported feeling more connected at school. Another study reported that children in gay and lesbian households are more likely to talk about emotionally difficult topics, and they are often more resilient, compassionate and tolerant.
10
Sexuality In Family In the past, very few teens “came out” to their families or told others they were gay. Most lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals (LGB) waited until they were adults to talk about their LGB identity with others. Fear of rejection and serious negative reactions kept many LGB adults from openly sharing their lives. Research has shown that gay or transgender youth who have been highly rejected by their families were more than 8 times as likely to have attempted suicide, 6 times more likely to be highly depressed, and 3 times more likely to use illegal drugs and engage in unprotected sexual intercourse than those who weren’t rejected by family members. And when these kids grow up, they are less likely to have a strong network of family and friends to support them.

Current Event: Same Sex Marriage
The first attempt for same sex marriage happened on May 18, Two University of Minnesota students, Richard John 'Jack' Baker and James Michael McConnell applied to Hennepin County District Court clerk Gerald Nelson for a marriage license. He denied the application, because the applicants both were men. After 45 years of fighting, they won. On June 26, 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage is a right protected by the US Constitution in all 50 states. Proponents of legal gay marriage contend that gay marriage bans are discriminatory and unconstitutional, and that same-sex couples should have access to all the benefits enjoyed by different-sex couples.

Sexuality In Politics Functionalism is how each part of society is interpreted in terms of how it contributes to the stability of the whole. Sexuality is often debated over since the Bill of Rights states that everyone is entitled to freedom of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The topic of sexuality in politics expresses functionalism because policies and laws are being passed to reflect the changing norms of society, which suggests that all sexual orientations be treated equally. Gay marriage now being legal in most states exemplifies this. Its now the right of individuals to marry whomever they love.

Sexuality In Politics Current Event:
In Houston, the bathroom ordinance was rejected. It stated that discrimination based on race, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in the public restrooms are prohibited. This means that a person that is transgender can go into the bathroom of their choice. Voters voted against this, due to the chance of false gender identity and sexual harassment in bathrooms.

Significance Sexuality is a big part of our generation since its display was completely unacceptable in the past. Now it is acceptable although it is often opinionated against by a large part of society. People are no longer as sensitive to sexual images on television. Sexuality is important to us because for many, it is the basis of belief concerning the potential one has in socializing and relating to another person in different social institutions.
