American Colonist were excited and proud in fighting and defeating the French
Tensions would rise following the war
British Parliament in London wanted to govern the territories
1st law was the Proclamation of 1763
Did not allow settlement of colonist west of the Appalachian Mountains.
Colonist wanted to settle the fertile Ohio River Valley
Britain didn’t want to provoke another rebellion

3. Troops and Taxes
King George III wanted to keep the peace in America and decided to keep 10,000 soldiers in the colonies
Enacted the Quartering Act- colonists had to supply and house British troops
In order to keep troops in these areas King George needed revenue

1764 The Sugar Act was passed to get the needed revenue
Taxed:
sugar, molasses, and other products shipped to the colonies

5. Stamp Act 2nd in a series of taxes passed by parliament 1765 Stamp Act
Made colonist buy and place a stamp on documents such as diplomas, contracts and newspapers.

6. Colonists Protest
Led by the Sons of Liberty! Lead by men like Patrick Henry.

Sugar Act and Stamp Act were repealed in 1766 but then Declaratory Act.
The Declaratory Act gives Parliament the right to tax the Colonies when ever they want.
