Governing Agencies For Safety
OSHA- Occupational Safety and Health Administration, job is to oversee safety in the workplace. CDC- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, they developed standard precautions for the health care workers to avoid accidental transmission of disease NIOSH- National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Conducts research and makes recommendations for the prevention of work related disease and injury (part of CDC)

First Aid- immediate temporary care to a person that has become sick or injured. Heart Attack- a sudden and sometimes fatal occurrence of coronary thrombosis, typically resulting in the death of part of a heart muscle. Stroke- Blood stops flowing to a part of the brain. Shock- Losing a large amount of blood Laceration- A jagged irregular tear of the skin. Incision- cut from a knife, glass, sharp rock Abrasion- Wound to outer layers of skin that causes little bleeding

Rabies- A disease of nervous system that can cause madness and death 1st degree burn- involves top layer of skin 2nd degree burn- Involves the top layer of skin and will blister and appear blotchy. 3rd degree burn- Destroys all the layers of skin, nerves, muscles, fat, and bones, burn looks brown or black Frostbite- ice crystals form in the spaces between the cells. Skin Avulsion- Tissue separates from the body Puncture- caused by an object piercing the skin

Poison- substance that is a solid, liquid, or gas that causes illness, injury or death Shock- Failure of the system to keep adequate blood circulating Sprain- Stretching or tearing of ligaments that hold bone together, Fainting- Temporary loss of consciousness. Gangrene- Death of tissue that comes from frostbite that is untreated
