Nine-Power Treaty Kellogg- Briand Pact- Pact of Paris 1922 Reaffirmed the Open Door Treaty in China Allowing equal rights and access to China for European nations Fordney-McCumber Tariff Law Raised tariffs for U.S. in imports U.S. secretary of state Frank B. Kellogg French foreign minister Aristide Briand Renounced war as a form of national policy Defensive war was permitted It only applied to France and U.S., many countries joined later

3 Teapot Dome Scandal Secretary of the Interior convinced Secretary of the Navy to transfer the oil reserves in Teapot Dome (Wyoming) and Elk Hills (California) to Interior Department Secretary of the Interior leased the lands to oilmen Harry F Sinclair and Edward L. Doheny Secretary of the Interior took a “loan” of $100,000 from Doheny and $300,000 from Sinclair

4 McNary-Haugen Bill Sought to keep agricultural prices high by authorizing the government to buy surpluses and sell them abroad A special tax was to inflicted on farmers to make up government losses Congress twice passed the bill, but Coolidge vetoed it

Set up the Federal Farm Board $500,000 to lend to farmers looking to buy, sell or store agricultural surpluses Tariff raised the import percent for goods coming into the U.S. from foreign countries

7 Black Tuesday Wall Street saw a record period of selling off stocks fearing price falls 16,000,000 shares were sold in Black Tuesday, October 29, 1929
