Why should I use Mendeley?
Import, organize, share, and manage your citations and documents. Create correctly formatted in-text citations & bibliographies in almost any style. Keep your research material and your notes together: You can annotate PDFs directly within Mendeley. Share your work: Mendeley makes it easy to find and join research groups, create a research profile to share your publications, and see who is reading your papers.

Download & install Mendeley + install the Web Importer & MS Word Plugin Add citations Organize your sources (folders, tags) Create a bibliography Explore other features (annotating PDFs, groups)

Register for a Mendeley account (it’s free)
Do not use this sign-in option, as there are limitations to the features.

Download & install Mendeley desktop

Open Mendeley desktop & login
After you log in, Mendeley will likely prompt you to install the Web Importer and the MS Word plugin. Go ahead and install them! If you aren’t prompted, click on “Tools” and select “Install Web Importer” and “Install MS Word Plugin.”

Designate a Watch Folder Add sources from your browser (using the Web Importer) Drag and drop PDFs

Add citations to Mendeley using the Web Importer
Find the Mendeley icon in your browser Click on the Mendeley icon in your browser to add a source. Your new source will show up in your library. (If it doesn’t show up immediately, click “Sync”)

Create citations and references
By drag + drop (references only) Right-click to copy formatted citations from items in Mendeley (references only) Use Citation Plugin in Word or LibreOffice (in-text citations and references)

Set the citation style in Mendeley
Set your preferred style: Click on “View” Select “Citation Style” and choose from the list of styles.

Add references by drag + drop
Open a word document (e.g. MS Word, GoogleDocs) Drag source(s) from your Mendeley library into the document

Copy references by right-clicking in Mendeley
Select items for your bibliography. Right-click and select “Copy As,” then choose “Formatted Citation” from the drop-down menu. Paste the copied content into a word document (MS Word, GoogleDocs, etc.)

Find the Citation Plugin in Word
The Word Plugin should install automatically. If it doesn’t, click on “Tools” and “Install Word Plugin”

Add in-text citations in a given style

Cite readings in-text with page numbers
1. Choose Insert Citation, and search for the source you want to cite. 2. Double click on the citation inside the Mendeley search bar to add a page number. Then press Enter to add the citation!
