Moscow Higher Education Courses for Women (1872 – 1918) The Moscow Higher Education Courses were opened on November 1st, 1872. Prof. Vladimir Gerye headed the new institution. He was the founder of higher education programmes in Russia. Vladimir Guerie (1837-1919)

Second Moscow State University (1918 – 1930) The Moscow Higher Education Courses for Women was transformed into the Second Moscow State University in 1918. The Second Moscow State University was used as a school where future teachers were trained. In 1920s the total amount of students rose up to 10 000. MSPU main building in 1930

Moscow State Pedagogical Institute (1930 – 1990) In 1930 the Second Moscow State University was renamed to Moscow State Pedagogical Institute. Before the Great Patriotic war, in May 1941 by the act of the higher council of the USSR, MSPI was named after Vladimir Lenin. The hall of scientific council in 1972

G.S.Landsberg In 1928 at the sometime as Raman did he discovered scattering combination of light. Awarded a USSR State Prizes. E.V.Shpolski Discovered quasilinear spectra of aromatic carbohydrates (Spolsky effect, 1959). Awarded a Vavilov Gold Medal in 1962 and a USSR State Prize in 1971. E.M.Lifshits Created a classical Course of theoretical physics). Awarded a USSR state prize (1954).

Moscow State Pedagogical University Viktor Matrosov is a current Rector of MSPU. He was elected as Rector in 1987. Because of his experience and management skills he was re-elected several times. V.Matrosov is a full member of Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Academy of Pedagogical Education. He has doctoral degree in physics and mathematics. Viktor L. Moscow State Pedagogical University Today the university structure comprises: - 26 buildings in 5 districts in Moscow; - 6 branches in different cities of Russia; - 18 faculties; - faculty of supplementary education; - Institute for advanced education; - 106 departments; - 14 scientific centers; - more than 50 scientific schools; - more than 20000 students. - more than 800 foreign students.
