Organization Branding
Always representing your organization (i.e. your members are your brand) Take time in organization meetings to talk about what are the values of the organization You as a member are your brand. Take time in meetings to revisit what your organization is about. If you are a member of the chess club and people see you playing checkers all the time what might they think about the chess club
7
Social Media Branding for Organizations
What social media does your organization use Who do you follow What you post about How often your organization posts Do you have a posting policy Who is allowed to post Does your organization need to use social media Who you follow can tell others not in your organization about organization (for example, if you are a member an organization that values leadership and education. But you follow members that constantly post about parting and skipping class what might that say about your “brand” to potential members? Do you have a position that is responsible for social media.

Recuitment & Growth
9
People join people Ask people why they joined there organization
Yes they join your organization because they have an interest in it, however the real reason is that they joined because they found a relationship with in the organization.
10
The elevator pitch The Do’s The Don’ts Assume Lead with a “hook”
Explain how you have impacted the organization Explain how the organization has impacted you personal Practice The Don’ts Assume Provide a List Lead with your vision Make promises Elevator pitches are typically 2-3 minute talks that highlight your organization to a potential new member Typically happens at something like the student organization fair Do’s Lead with a “hook”—a hook like a statistic of anecdote (short story about a real incident) that catches the attention of your audience Explain how you have impacted the organization—make it personable Explain how the organization has impacted you personal—make it personable Practice—take time to practice with your members of your organization until you have perfected your speech and can say it with out thinking about it. Don’ts Assume—do not assume that the person you are talking to knows what your organization is about Provide a list—don’t just recite a list of things your organization does Lead with your vision—the person you are talking to most likely doesn’t know what your organization is about so don’t lead with your vision as they will not have any idea of what you are talking about. Make Promises—if you are not able to come through with a promise once that person joins your organization they might feel like they where lied to and quit, leading to low retention rates.

Creating standards Create a list of ideal traits of a member in your organization Pick out the top 3 or 4 traits Craft a form that gives value to those traits Creating standards allows you to give purpose to your organizational hold members accountable It also always your to stress the values of your organization to members and potential members Start small if needed and make sure they are with in reason of what the basic requirements of a member must do

Creating standards Look over the hula-hoop club standards

Retention + Sustainability
14
Retaining \Members Give members ownership of the organization (involve past officers in the ownership) Hold members accountable for actions Reinforce positively (i.e. if a member excels find a way to reward them) If general members do not feel like they have value they maybe come restless and think about quitting. (give them responsibilities such as a committee or assigning them to help with an event hosted by the organization) If you organization has standards and members do not follow through with those obligations take appropriate action. (This maybe the hardest part about sustainability and retaining members. You might loose members at first but over the long term your organization will thrive.) Reward those members that excel even if it a simple shout out on social media or in a organization meeting. People like to feel valued.
15
Sustaining your Organization
Finding a organization identity Create buy-in from members (i.e. everyone is on the same page) Create a growth plan with objectives for future leaders (make sure that the plan is obtainable) Adapt to changes within your organization and surrounding communities
