2010-2011 District Highlights January 2011 is School Board Recognition Month The GCISD community will join school districts across the state to thank board members for their dedication and hard work. The GCISD Board of Trustees will be recognized at the January 24 regular Board meeting. 2010-11 Board of Trustees Bottom row, left to right: Becky St. John, Charlie Warner and Lisa Hall. 2010-2011 District Highlights The Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation Star Grant Patrol recently awarded funds for 23 GCISD projects totaling $66,377. In a festive atmosphere complete with drummers, balloons and oversized checks, teachers were surprised in their classrooms and proclaimed winners. In October, the Education Foundation awarded 20 mini-grants totaling $4,589, for a grand total of $70,966 for the first semester of the 2010-2011 school year. 2010-2011 District Highlights Grapevine High School students Landry Ayres and Skyler Thompson earned champion titles in events at the Sixth Annual George Mason University Patriot Games Classic Speech and Debate Tournament in Fairfax, Virginia. One of the most competitive tournaments on the national circuit, the competition had over 1400 entries from 105 schools representing over 30 states. 2010-2011 District Highlights GMS student advocate awarded for facilitating student community-building activities Sharon Greene, Grapevine Middle School student advocate, received The Rotary Builder Award from The Grapevine Rotary Club on Dec. 15 th. Presented to her by Paul Lucas, Rotarian Governor, District 5790, the award recognized her for her contributions and service above self to her Rotary Club and the World community. Greene has been with the District for fourteen years and has developed many student programs that involve Rotary support and interaction.
