Plagiarism is cheating… There are serious consequences to cheating and plagiarism So what is PLAGIARISM??

3 Definition Plagiarism is the act of taking someone else’s
thoughts or ideas and presenting them as your own This includes exact wording, paraphrasing, or reassembling

4 5 specific acts of plagiarism:
Not documenting properly Purchasing and submitting pre-written papers Letting someone else write a paper for you Paying someone else to write a paper for you Submitting someone else’s unpublished work as your own

7 Options Use quotes and citations (we will have a lesson on this shortly) Cite your sources Do your research, make an outline based on the knowledge you gained, write paper in own words When in doubt, cite your sources!!

8 General facts: Plagiarism occurs when steps are not taken to show that the information is borrowed The #1 reason normal people plagiarize is because of not managing time properly If you paraphrase a document or website, you are REQUIRED to document the source What are some reasons students might be tempted to plagiarize?
