Project # 12 – Smart Walker REU student: Christopher Feltner Graduate mentors: Sharare Zethabian and Siavash Khodadadeh Faculty mentor(s): Dr. Turgut and Dr. Bölöni Week 3 (May 29 – June 1, 2018) Accomplishments: Began development of depth mapping software Whiteboarded a plan for software Started writing code to retrieve depth images, get depth information, detect obstacles, and provide haptic feedback Identified an algorithm to detect obstacles in the path-of-travel of the user, and find the distance of the closest obstacle to the user Problems & Solutions Threshold values for identification of obstacles must be determined experimentally Plans for next week: Continue to develop obstacle detection software NSF REU Research Experience on Internet of Things 2018
