5. Poison Gas Germans introduced chlorine gas in 1915.
Chlorine gas causes suffocation.

British developed the tank – an armored vehicle that moves on chain tracks allowing it to cross difficult terrain – during WWI.

7. Submarines Submarine was introduced by the Germans.
Submarines can launch torpedoes
(underwater missiles) at enemy ships.

8. Airplanes
World War I was the first war in which planes were utilized. Planes could drop bombs as well as shoot at one another in the sky.

9. Artillery
Artillery is the word used to describe huge, mounted, projectile firing guns.

10. World War I was a total war which means that all of a nation’s resources go into winning the war. The war effort took place on the battlefield and at home as well. Women helped in the war effort.

The Muslim Ottomans distrusted the Christian Armenians that lived in their empire. The Ottomans deported, massacred, and led the Armenians on death marches. Over 1 million Armenians died during the Armenian Genocide.
