2 First things first…. There are now two ways to meet graduation Requirements Pass English and Math ISTEP Demonstrate Post-Secondary competency

3 What is a post-secondary competency?
Earn an academic Honors diploma Act scores 18 English/22 reading and 22 math/23 science Sat scores 480 reading and 530 math Armed services vocational aptitude battery (asvab): 31 3 ap or dual credit courses with a “c” average Concentrator with a “C” Average

4 What is a concentrator? Getting 6 credits in a career cluster with a “c” Average Career Center Agriculture Architecture & Construction Business & Marketing Health Science Hospitality & Human Services Information Technology Manufacturing & Logistics STEM – Computer Science or Engineering

You will be ed your transcript Use the worksheet and your transcript to determine what courses you still need to take to graduate with the kind of diploma you want to earn

9 Advice from a college admissions officer….
Questions to ask yourself: Am I taking a well-balanced academic program that will provide me with a good foundation for college? Am I prepared to take college-level math, writing, and science courses? Do I feel challenged by the courses that I am taking? Are my courses among the more rigorous ones available to me at my school? Am I seeking challenge or avoiding it?

10 Courses All Juniors Have to Take
US History or Dual Credit US History Both are 2 trimester courses Should take 2 credits of science to finish core 40 requirements Make sure you’ve had chemistry or integrated chem/phys Might postpone this to senior year if you go to the career center next year All juniors take english 11a and 11b Take the next math course Algebra 2 Honors -> Honors Trig/Precalculus Geometry Honors -> Honors Algebra 2 Algebra 2 -> Geometry

Asterisk indicates graduation requirements Do your best to list classes in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester given constraints Leave the # column blank Be sure to list BOTH PARTS of a 2 Trimester Class Circle alternates or I will pick  When you meet with your counselor, be prepared for changes

12 Special Programs – Require application
Cadet Teaching – Interest meeting around spring break time 2 periods Usually just 1 trimester Peer Tutoring – at elementary, middle, or even high school 1 period Can be taken 2 trimesters Elkhart Area Career Center (EACC) – Get application from counselor during meeting 3 periods Every trimester

13 What Next? Your transcript will be emailed to you
Complete the Graduation Requirements Checklist Access the Course Catalog on the Guidance Department website and talk to your teachers Use the Course Listing sheet to complete your Course Selection Sheet – Get a parent signature Please select alternatives – you don’t want us picking your courses An appointment time will be ed to you – don’t miss it! Do your best to accurately pick your schedule now – this is the last year to impact gpa before college applications Stay tuned for the process of how to change your tentative schedule
