Coordination of Fundraising Efforts
基金募款效能 的 協調 2009 RRFC Institute - Coordination of Fundraising Efforts Date: Wednesday, 11 March 2009 Session time: Session 1: – 1025 Session 2: – 1155 Session 3: – 1445 Duration: 75 minutes INTRODUCTION & ICE BREAKER was another record setting year for giving to TRF. Total contributions were the highest in TRF’s history, reaching US$269.6 million.* For the second time in history, contributions to the Annual Programs Fund exceeded $100 million. Last year was also a record year for the Foundation’s maturing major gifts program. $131.3 million was received in 644 new major gifts (gifts with a face value of $10,000 or more qualify as major gifts). This number includes a $100 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for polio eradication. These successes are due to the extraordinary generosity of Rotarians and friends of Rotary around the globe, as well as the organized efforts of Rotary volunteers. We are - right now - in the worst worldwide financial crisis in a generation. If we (the business, professional and community leaders) are hurting, think of what is happening to others. In these difficult times, it is not only important but necessary to dig even deeper to help.

Fundraising Priorities
基金募款的優先考慮 Rotarians are presented with multiple fundraising priorities for The Rotary Foundation. What are the specific goals for each of these four fundraising needs? Key points Every Rotarian, Every Year, which raises money for the Annual Programs Fund, encourages every Rotarian to give something to The Rotary Foundation every year. Goal of US$100 per capita worldwide. Rotary’s polio fundraising challenge is an important opportunity to fulfill our promise to eradicate polio. Goal of US$200 Million by 2012. The Trustees have set a goal of securing US$95 million for the Rotary Centers by 2015 to give long-term stability to the program. The Trustees have set a goal of raising US$1 billion for the Permanent Fund by 2025 (in net assets and expectancies). All the goals discussed work toward one common goal, supporting The Rotary Foundation. RRFC’s are tasked with balancing the fundraising priorities in order to address all goals set by The Rotary Foundation.

Recognition for Foundation Support 支持基金會的 表彰
Every Rotarian, Every Year Sustaining Member Paul Harris Fellow Named Fellowships Only Paul Harris Society Benefactor Bequest Society Major Donor Arch Klumph Society What tangible recognition/appreciation opportunities are associated with each priority? APF-SHARE contributions are the only designation eligible towards club per-capita goal achievement, Every Rotarian, Every Year and Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member individual and club recognition. Contributions count toward new or multiple Paul Harris Fellow recognition and generate Foundation Recognition Points. Rotary’s $200 Million Challenge contributions count toward new or multiple Paul Harris Fellow recognition and generate Foundation Recognition Points. Rotary Centers for International Studies is primarily a gift designation within the Permanent Fund and funded through outright major gifts and bequests. Named Funds may be established at US$60,000 or more, and would be considered a restricted gift to the Annual Programs Fund, and would generate PHF credit, but not impact per capita giving. Permanent Fund contributions and bequests may be eligible towards Benefactor and/or Bequest Society recognition, but NOT Paul Harris Fellow recognition. Outright contributions (and multi-year major gift pledges) of US$10,000 or more, regardless of designation, are eligible for major donor recognition. What specific tactics or strategies can be implemented for each priority?

TRF Donor Profile 2007-08 捐獻概略(In US$ millions)
Excludes US$103.5 million from Gates and Google 我們的挑戰就是要放大巨額捐獻的比例(到60%) Total Gifts (in millions): $166.1* In , TRF received 644 new major gifts worldwide for a total of $131.3 million (face value). Including a $100 million gift from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and a $3.5 million gift from The Google Foundation, the average of these gifts was $204,000, an approximately 500 percent increase from Excluding the Gates and Google gifts, TRF raised approximately 17% of its total contributions from major gifts. This is significantly lower than the industry standard of 60 percent. This means TRF has the base of support to attract more major gifts. Our challenge now is to maximize our fund development efforts by asking for and receiving a higher level of major gift support from those most closely tied to the institution.

Fundraising Priorities
Best Practices Exchange In the time remaining we’d like to engage in a deeper discussion on some of the key concepts you have identified for our various fundraising priorities. Training leader’s notes Facilitate a discussion on key zone and district training events, useful publications and marketing materials and use of technology Emphasize and encourage deeper discussion on Club Goal Setting, the Paul Harris Society, use of the Zone Team and the distinction between Major Donors and Major Gifts. Sample questions follow. What are the key educational and training opportunities to help distinguish each priority and implement a plan for goal achievement?
14
Goal Setting How can goal setting help with goal achievement? What specific goals are established? A way to engage clubs; a way to identify committed Rotarians to serve beyond the club level; to identify prospects for major gifts; a way to identify larger challenges The Club Goal Form is an important fundraising tool to establish real and achievable goals for each club and, in turn, each district. Submitting meaningful club goals in a timely manner (Forms due to DG by 1 May) is crucial to overall district planning and fundraising efforts. To put it in terms of sheer dollars and sense, the statistics support of goal setting. Clubs that do not set a goal have an average per capita contribution of US$ Clubs that set goals average $ It not only suggests the likelihood of increased contributions, but it reduces the likelihood of non-participating clubs: 31.8 percent of clubs that do not set a goal end up being non-contribution clubs. Only 8.1 percent of clubs that set a goal end up not participating financially. Can anyone share how Goal Setting is perceived in your area, and how it is conducted in your Districts? How can we work to re-package the goal-setting process not as another administrative task, but as an opportunity to engage and educate a club in our Foundation? Ultimately, we must use the process to engage our members in the programs. Goal setting is a story-telling opportunity and an educational opportunity. It allows us to talk about what our contributions are doing…..

Goal Setting Club goal form

(In US$ millions)27216位PHS只佔總社友2.2%
TRF Donor Profile (In US$ millions)27216位PHS只佔總社友2.2% 卻佔APF捐獻的24% Total Gifts (in millions): $166.1* * Excludes US$103.5 million from Gates and Google TRF offers a number of opportunities to show appreciation to individuals for personal outright contributions supporting humanitarian and educational programs. Every Rotarian is encouraged to make a personal contribution each year, at an amount comfortable to them. These individuals, who give between $0.01 and $99.99 to TRF, are commonly regarded as Every Rotarian, Every Year Donors. Individuals who make annual contributions of $100 or more are recognized as Rotary Foundation Sustaining Members. Can anyone share what the Paul Harris Society is and how you have marketed and managed the program in your districts? How has it impacted your annual giving? Those individuals who personally contribute $1,000 or more with the intent to sustain this level of support each year are eligible to be members of a district-administered Paul Harris Society. As the graph illustrates, it is significant to note that the 27,216 PHS eligible supporters, who comprised just 2.2 percent of the Rotary membership, accounted for of 24 percent of TRF’s total APF contributions. This illustrates the impact of larger gifts to support our Foundation programs, and the critical importance to have a proactive focus on major gift activity in the districts you cover.
