Read the instructions before you start.
If you don’t understand what to do, ask for help before starting. If you feel uncomfortable doing a procedure, don’t do it.

Organize your lab Put everything where it goes.

Handle chemicals properly
Handle & dispose of chemicals properly Avoid breathing or coming into contact with poisonous chemicals. Wear goggles and gloves.

Practice good fire safety skills
Use a fire extinguisher to smother the fire. If you catch on fire, STOP, DROP & ROLL – never run. In case of a fire, notify the teacher.

Protect your skin Wear gloves
If you spill a chemical on your skin, notify the teacher and rinse the area for 15 minutes with water.

Save your nose hairs - Waft
If you have to smell a chemical, hold it 6 – 10 inches below and away from your nose. Wave your hand over the container toward your nose.

Wear goggles if appropriate
Wear goggles if you have to heat or mix chemicals or in situations where something may get into your eye. If chemicals get in your eye, flush your eye with water for 15 minutes.

Lose the comedy routine
No running, punching, shoving or other horseplay during a lab.

No eating during a lab Do not eat or drink during a lab.
If a lab does call for you to eat, be sure the lab area, your hands, and the equipment you are using is clean.
