Sir Isaac Newton and his Discoveries
Newton's Laws of Motion Sir Isaac Newton and his Discoveries
2
Newton's Third Law of Motion
Newton’s third law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction For example, you push on a wall it may be surprising that the wall pushes back at you
3
Newton’s Third Law in Depth
If you push on a wall, it will push back at you with the same force you exerted for example a bird flying, it pushes the air down the air pushes it up When one object exerts a force on another object the second object exerts the same size force on the first object
4
Do They Cancel Each Other Out?
No surprisingly they can’t These are often called an action-reaction force pair They don’t cancel because they act on different objects, most cancel on the same objects
5
Newton’s Laws in Sports
It may not be obvious but Newton’s laws are involved in sports too They apply when objects aren’t even moving Like swimming, you push the water back and the water pushes you forward
6
Scientific Discoveries
The same with a rocket, the gas molecules are pushed down by the rocket, the gas molecules push the rocket up It would be impossible to walk without it, we push from the ground, the ground pushes us forward
