Through the survey, 80% of pupils revealed that they were confident in trying new activities, a figure which has remained largely unchanged from the 79% figure we saw three years ago. However, we do see a disparity by gender, with boys being far more confident than girls, and girls in turn by far more confident than those identifying as ‘other’.

However, the gap has reduced in the past three years, with an 8 percentage point drop from primary to secondary pupils this year, but a 13 point drop three years ago. 2015: Disability = 70%; No Disability = 80% 4. We can also see a disparity among confidence between those who are, and who are not disabled or impaired. Although those who are not disabled are more confident that those who are, the gap between the two has reduced slightly over the last three years. Moreover, the confidence of those who are disabled has increased over the last three years. Dim Anabledd/ Nam Anabl/ Nam

Lastly with regards to confidence, as Tim highlighted, the survey asked pupils for reasons that would encourage them to do more sport. The three responses on the slide are all related to confidence. As is expected, girls and those identifying as ‘other’ would do more sport if they were more confident. The same can be said for ‘if I was better at sport’ and ‘if I was fitter’ responses.
