WHAT THE INSIGHT IS TELLING US……….
Over eight out of 10 (84%) of 1,000 children aged eight-16 agreed that experiencing winning and losing is important. 50% of girls and 70% of boys like PE lessons when they are competitive. 37% for less active girls 50% for less active boys 45% of girls agreed that “sport was too competitive” Liked the opportunity to take part in competition but don’t like the aggressive or ‘overly competitive’ behavior 2011/12 – 80% of 5-15-year olds took part in competitive sport. 2016/17 – 76%

Are you ready to COMPETE?
…but with a new approach?
13
Rules.... You may only use one hand to complete the task, the other hand must be placed behind your back Players must start with their hand flat on the table All Lego pieces must start inside a container and be tipped out before being sorted into piles by colour You may only move one brick at a time All piles must be placed outside of the square within separate sectors, which are clearly marked on your table The player must say STOP when they believe they have finished
14
The Challenge……. Individual task – played as a team
Variations introduced from the outset: Player-led festival (Premier League Academies) Self-refereeing (Ultimate Frisbee) Alternative scoring LGC KIT REQUIRED: - teams of four or five! - Lego – 30 bricks – 5 colours with six bricks per colour - 1 x container with 30 Lego bricks per container per team - taped square on the desk with five spokes coming off it – to give five clear sorting areas - score sheets = x 1 per team Player led festivals = Premier League Academies – each person has a coloured piece of paper, this denotes the activity area you will go to first, and there you will find other players to form a team with Self-refereeing = "Ultimate Frisbee" – in your team you must play by and follow the rules, allowing each player to have a go, and record a time Alternative scoring = pg 20 – not about the time or who is the fastest, we’re more interested in the cumulative team time to award points and thus a score as a team rather than highlight an individual

Why and what might you try?
REFLECTION Why and what might you try? “The competitions I deliver celebrate and recognise a wide variety of outcomes for young people?” ER I will bring them 'together' attention - Reflect that hopefully through the variations they have seen/heard it has started to make them think (lit the fire) - Get into pairs/trio and share from what they have seen why and what might they try. Intra / Inter / County Final - Spring 2019 following the pilots....
