Cause and Effect Mrs. Ransey’s Second Grade

2 Cause… A cause is something that makes something else happen. Out of two events, it is the event that happens first. To determine the cause, ask the question "Why Did it Happen?"

3 Effect… An effect is what happens as a result of the cause. Of two related events, it’s the one that happens second or last.  To determine the effect, ask the question "What Happened?"

4 Cause & Effect You use cause and effect every day when you solve problems and make decisions. Understanding causes and effects is important in both day-to-day living and long-range planning. Learning to identify cause and effect relationships can help you understand what has happened.
