1 Constructive and Destructive Processes
Tectonic Plates Two types of plates Constructive Processes Destructive Processes Colliding plates (Convergent Plates) Diverging plates Other Constructive Processes Large broken pieces of the Earth’s crust Oceanic and Continental (Draw a picture) Build up the Earth’s surface. Ex: Mountains and islands Destroys areas of the Earth. Ex: Volcanoes like Mt. Saint Helen’s Build mountains like the Himalayas Create ocean ridges under the ocean and rift valleys on land. Ex: Mid-ocean Ridge circles the Earth and The Great Rift Valley in Africa. Volcanoes formed the Hawaiian Islands.

3 Constructive and Destructive Processes
So, why doesn’t the Earth get any bigger? Summary: Earthquakes along fault lines also build up the Earth. Destructive processes are constantly wearing down the Earth’s crust. Weathering breaks down the Earth’s crust. Erosion carries away the broken parts. Earthquakes and Volcanoes also destroy areas of the Earth.
