Ethos Ethos is an appeal to credibility. In an ethos appeal, the speaker attempts to establish his or her authority on the subject. In other words, we tend to believe people whom we respect and trust.
4
Pathos Pathos is an appeal to emotion. In an ethos appeal, the speaker attempts to evoke an emotional response in his or her audience. Emotional appeals are highly effective, but run the risk of being manipulative.
