AWC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
ABOUT US AWC Scholarship Program helps underprivileged girls in rural Thailand finish high school by providing scholarships. We are a volunteer-based organization established by the American Women’s Club of Thailand in 1995. We partner with the Education for Development Foundation (EDF). EDF is an education charitable organization operating under the laws of Thailand. It was the winner of the 2012 “Thailand NGO of the Year” for best practices in Resource Mobilization, Accountability, Transparency, and Sustainability.

CHILDREN NOT IN SCHOOL OVER 37% of high school students do not finish secondary education 3 of every 8 high school students will DROP OUT before graduation* Children drop out because of: Poverty Pressure to earn a living to support family Inability to pay for expenses: transportation, school supplies, food, etc. *From a 2016 publication by the Quality Learning Foundation (a foundation established by the Thai Government pursuant to a Decree from the Office of the Prime Minister)

HOW WE HELP We give scholarships to qualified students. Each scholarship costs 6,000 baht (USD 200) per year. Qualifications for scholarship: From rural North, Northeastern, or Central Thailand In grades M4-M6 At least GPA 2.5 An annual household income of less than 50,000 baht. (USD 1,600)

ACHIEVEMENTS We have helped more than 8,000 girls graduate from high school since 1995. In 2018, we raised more than 2.4 million baht (USD 77,000) giving 410 girls the chance to finish one more year of high school. We have hosted an annual English Camp since 1999. Gives opportunity to participate in various types of learning activities Gives opportunity to network with other students and foreigners

FUNDING DIRECTLY IMPACTS STUDENTS Scholarship Program is funded entirely by voluntary donations Made possible by volunteers who do not receive any salary or compensation Unique program because 5,000 of every 6,000 baht is paid directly to the students* *Remaining 1,000 baht goes towards administrative costs

PROGRAM STRATEGY AWC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
We work year-round to better the lives of our scholarship students. In addition to an education, we believe that creativity and English-language skills are important to a successful future. We hold an annual Art Competition and English Camp where girls can express themselves creatively, practice their language skills, and interact with foreigners. These activities are funded by independent fundraising events. School visits Collect graduation surveys from M6 students (seniors) and inform sponsors Breakfast at the Oscars fundraiser with proceeds to Scholarship School year finishes end of March 2020 Fundraising for the school year closes on April 30, 2019 First installment of funds transferred to students Art Competition – This year’s theme TBD School visits KSAPRIL MAY JUNE JULY AUGUST–SEPTEMBER OCTOBER–DECEMBER JANUARY–MARCH School year starts mid-May. Begin accepting donations for the school year. Sponsors receive Student Information Packet by photo, school, basic biographical info., contact info of student. Sponsors filing taxes in Thailand receive tax receipt by . Second installment of funds transferred to students English Camp (mid-November) Annual Scholarship Newsletter sent to Sponsors (mid-December)

AWC SUCCESS STORY Patcharee Srisang (Pat) communicated via the Scholarship FB page My name is Patcharee. 19 years ago I received scholarship from AWC being the first student provided scholarships to in Tao-ngoi Pattanasuksa school. I am now preparing to speak at Lower Maekhong Innitiative Women Leadership program in Cambodia in Jan, I own an English school just across the street from Tao-ngoi Pattasuksa school. It is a non profit self-sustain school. I would like to express my sincere thanks to AWC. I truly appreciate it. Thank you so much for changing my life.
