Phonics Unit 2 - In Unit 2, we learn to read and spell 3-sound, short vowel words such as map, lit, job, fix, and quit. Students also read and write trick words, or words that cannot be sounded out. The trick words for Unit 2 are shown below. A good way to practice trick words is to write them on index cards, hole-punch the cards, and put the cards on a ring. Keep the cards at home or in the car for practice on the go. Students should be able to quickly read trick words and write them correctly when they are dictated by an adult.
