2. 1. The overarching question
Using the topic you have chosen, write an overarching question (the “big” question) your students will answer. The question should reflect the topic and the standards. (You could use a clarifying objective as your question.)

3. 2. Find documents
Before you google, think about what documents could help answer your overarching question.
Then look for documents- a mixture of visuals and text
The documents should not be too long or too difficult.
Modify as needed (pick the most important parts)
Add vocabulary as needed.
Make sure to cite them for your students

4. 3. Write the questions
For each documents, write questions to help students find the most important points
The questions should also help the students answer your overarching question.

5. 4. Have your students answer your overarching question.
This will be in the form of an activity other than an essay. If you need ideas, look at the handout I gave you, or the website I showed you under Interactive Notebooks (Mr. Roughton).

6. 5. Put it all together
Into a classroom-ready packet.
