Article of the Week Purpose:
To familiarize ourselves with current events that are happening in our world. To give ourselves a wider base of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. It is not enough to simply teach recognize a theme in a given novel; if you are to become literate, you must broaden their reading experiences into real-world text.

Article of the Week: Selecting Choice Articles
When choosing an article: Choose something that provokes deeper thought or consideration. It does not have to be “profound”- sometimes, reflections or editorials on seemingly mundane things (cell-phone laws, etc.) are worthy of discussion. Please: No shallow gossip, weather reports, etc. Try to find articles that are criticizing or reflecting on society.

Article of the Week: Instructions
Students will attach a copy of the article, a rhetorical précis, and identify concepts like purpose, tone, audience, bias, and appeals. These entries will be about words These assignments are due EVERY MONDAY, with at least 1 article each month being an op-ed. The article the student chooses to analyze must be published within a month prior to the due date.
