MONDAY 12/17/2018 Recreating Romeo and Juliet: You will choose a group to perform a Romeo and Juliet Scene with. You will be required to write a script and use props. You may use any of the materials in the classroom to create your props, or use your own. EVERYONE IN THE GROUP MUST HAVE SPEAKING PARTS! See rubric for more details *One-on-one follow-up conferences will be happening during this time also.* MAKE SURE YOUR WARM-UP NOTEBOOKS ARE IN THE CRATE SO THAT THEY CAN BE GRADED!

4 TUESDAY 12/18/2018 Finish R&J Performances
Study Guide Review: Definitions on the next slides. Writing final prewrite: With a partner, you will brainstorm claims in response to the question, “Who is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet?”. Write your claim on one post-it note, and your evidence/page number on another post it note. Place your post-it on the correct poster/chart. YOU MAY DO MORE THAN ONE CLAIM!

5 Soliloquy vs. Monologue
A soliloquy is a speech performed by a single character, usually in a play. In a soliloquy the character speaks his thoughts out loud, to himself. A monologue is a speech spoken by one character, usually in a play. A character delivering a monologue may be speaking to other characters in the play or to the audience. Examples from R&J????

6 Foil A foil is a character who contrasts with another character — usually the protagonist— to highlight particular qualities of the other character. In some cases, a subplot can be used as a foil to the main plot. Mercutio/Romeo Rosaline/Juliet

7 Tragic Hero a great or virtuous character in a dramatic tragedy who is destined for downfall, suffering, or defeat Is Romeo a tragic hero? Why or why not?

8 Tragic flaw the character defect that causes the downfall of the protagonist of a tragedy; hamartia.

9 Iambic Pentameter a line of verse with five metrical feet, each consisting of one short (or unstressed) syllable followed by one long (or stressed) syllable, for example Two households, both alike in dignity.

10 Couplet two lines of verse, usually in the same meter and joined by rhyme, that form a unit.

11 a stanza of four lines, especially one having alternate rhymes.
Quatrain a stanza of four lines, especially one having alternate rhymes.
