12 1878 – The first separate pediatrics department in a general hospital in New York is created

13 1988 – Mount Sinai is the first in New York State to perform a liver transplant

45 1922 – After an 11 year lapse, Mount Sinai admits women into its training programs

46 1993 – The first pediatric living related donor liver transplant in New York State is performed at Mount Sinai

47 1913 – Mount Sinai purchases the land between 98 th and 99 th Streets for expansion

48 1990 – The first Employee Recognition Presidential Service Award presented

49 1900 – The hospital buys its first x-ray machine

50 1989 – The Lewis Green and Evelyn Green Davis Learning Center opens on 97 th Street for year round care for children of Mount Sinai employees

51 1944 – Resident staff begin receiving monthly salaries of $40

52 1999 – The Schools academic affiliation moves from CUNY to NYU

53 1922 – Occupational Therapy program established

54 1998 – Mount Sinai opens worlds largest fully automated core clinical testing lab

55 1872 – Mount Sinai moves to larger buildings on Lexington Ave

56 1966 – First kidney transplant performed at Mount Sinai

57 1899 – Although encountering some resistance from colleagues, George E. Brewer introduces the practice of using rubber gloves during surgery

58 2002– The World Trade Center Worker and Volunteer Medical Screening Program is opened under the auspices of The Occupational and Environmental Health Division of Community Medicine

59 1877 – When the wards are divided between medicine and surgery cases, the first official departments are created

60 2003 – A new 5 year MD/MBA program is developed with the Zicklin School of Business of Baruch College, CUNY

61 1881 – The Mount Sinai Hospital Training School for Nurses is created

62 1979 – The first formal institutional Mission statement adopted by The Board of Trustees

63 1898 – A new law is established that gives Mount Sinai 40 cents per day for each needy and charity patient; costs were then $1.33 1/5 per day

64 1981 – Terry Krulwich, Ph.D. becomes first woman Dean at MSSM – Dean of Graduate School

65 1904 – Mount Sinai moves to larger, improved facilities on 100 th Street

66 1986 – A Doctor Referral Service is created, 1-(800)-MD-SINAI; the first computerized service in New York City

67 2004 – Mount Sinai Queens opens its new lobby, complete with a Patient Resource Room

68 2006 – Mount Sinai Queens Imaging Center opens on the first floor
