5. Chapter 19- Operation Pasteles
Evelyn and Mami are making pasteles. Evelyn learns that Mami doesn't get along with Abuela because Abuela was always leaving her as a child. Evelyn's father died when Mami was pregnant with Evelyn, so she moved to New York for a better life. When they leave for church, the Young Lords meet with the pastor but their requests are denied.
