Seismic Wave Slinky lab
Materials: meter stick, slinky, stopwatch, paper, pencil Hypothesis: Compose a Hypothesis for ONE of the experiments Procedure: EXP # Stretch the Slinky 2 meters between you and a partner, hold both ends 2- The other person will be timing the waves on the Slinky (one complete trip, back and forth) 3- Practice first by pulling the Slinky toward you a bit and then pushing it away. 4- Do 3 trials, timing the wave as it does one complete trip. Record the time in the table and sketch the movement of the Slinky in your observations. 5- Take the average of the 3 trial times. EXP # Shake one end of the Slinky from side to side. Practice a few times. Time a complete trip of the slinky as it travels back and fourth. 7- Do 3 trials, timing the waves as it does one complete trip back and forth. Record the information in the table and sketch the movement of the Slinky in your observations. 8- Take the average of the 3 trial times. Observation: Sketch movement of slinky and complete table Analysis: Identify and explain the types of waves you are modeling. Explain the type of movement causes each waves. Explain which of the waves moves faster. trial time(s) 1 2 3 avg. avg
