1 Stride Timeout Updates
Tentative Release Date: November 19, 2018

2 Stride Timeout Issues Please review the information regarding Stride Timeout Updates and share information with staff and students.

3 Timer Freeze for Inactivity
We’re increasing the timer “freeze” behavior from 5 min up to 10 min. The system is designed to require a student action every 5 minutes to count toward activity time. We will increase the timeout time to 10 minutes to allow sufficient time to read and respond to the longest ELA passage. If a student does not click within the program in 10 minutes, the 10 minutes will be subtracted from activity time from teacher reports in an effort to be more accurate.

4 8 min inactivity warning
We’re adding a popup warning at 8 min to let still active students know their time is about to freeze and to take action. This popup alerts the student that the timer will reset if no activity (at a minimum 1 click within Stride) in 10 minutes. Importantly, if the user clicks on this popup it will count as activity, just like answering a question or playing a game. So by acknowledging they are still there, they will keep the time and clear the inactivity monitor for another 8 minutes.

5 10-minute inactivity freeze warning
A new popup warning if the timer does freeze at 10 min explaining why that happened and make it explicit their time will reset on their next action. If the student does not click the popup between 8 min and 10 min, after 10 full minutes of inactivity a new popup appears. The popup explains the inactivity policy and explains that the time tracked for the teacher will revert back to the last point they had activity. This popup will stay visible until the student acknowledges it. If they’ve been inactive more than 2 hours, they’ll also get the session expired popup and be asked to log in again.

6 Practice Popup Suppression GAP/PMA Testing
The “Stride Practice Complete” timing popup will be suppressed when students are in PMA, GAP, or Quiz mode. Previously, Stride had a reminder popup appear after 20 minutes of work, regardless of what was completed within the student app. Going forward, if the student is in PMA, GAP, or Quiz mode, the “Stride Practice Complete” popup will be suppressed until that test has been finished by the student. It will then appear after the last question. If those specific test modes aren’t active, the popup will appear after 20 minutes like normal.
