6
Rule 6 - FORGIVENESS Don’t take anything personal bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Colossians 3:13
7
Rule 7 - PATIENCE Think about what you want to say So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; James 1:19
8
The DON’T’S of Our Speech
Seven things we need to possess Seven things we need to avoid Perhaps subconscious behavior Worldly communication skills
9
Don’t #1 – SELF-RIGHTEOUS
The purpose of just proving ourselves right But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?“ Luke 10:29
10
Don’t #2 – DEMEANING Speaking harshly to deter disagreement They answered him, "You were born entirely in sins, and are you teaching us?" So they put him out. John 9:34
11
Don’t #3 – MEAN SPIRITED Putting others down Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander 1 Peter 2:1 (intentionally or unintentionally)
12
Don’t #4 – INSENSITVE No consideration for the feelings of others This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. James 3:15-16 Not having consideration for the feelings of others James 3:15-16 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.
13
Don’t #5 – CONTENTIOUS Loving debate But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. Reject a factious man after a first and second warning Titus 3:9-10 (intentionally or unintentionally)
14
Don’t #6 – CRITICAL Coming across as judgmental Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it. James 4:11 (intentionally or unintentionally)
15
Don’t #7 – BOASTFUL Coming across as arrogant These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage. Jude 1:16 (intentionally or unintentionally)
16
