2. Canadian Challenges War at Sea, Air, Trench Warfare, Ypres, Somme
Vimy under the command of a Canadian Major-General, Arthur Currie

Canada was very successful- 11, 285 men died but the ridge was captured- France dedicated the ridge to Canada as a memorial park

5. Passchendaele
Near Ypres, Belgium- constant shelling and heavy rains- no mans land was a mud pit
Haig orders Currie and the Canadians to turn to Passchendaele- Currie strongly objects
Same preparations as Vimy- result was 15, 654 casualties
Little military significance to this battle- remains a part of Canadian history, but what part exactly is up for debate

6. Armistice
Nov Germany and the Allies agree to an armistice- not a peace treaty or a surrender, an agreement to stop fighting
1919 Paris Peace Conference- representatives of the allies met in Paris to negotiate treaties and officially end the war- Canada was invited as a distinct delegation separate from Britain
David Lloyd George, George Clemenceau and Woodrow Wilson (huh??)
