FRIDAY 17th NOVEMBER (11:30am – 1:00pm)
Week Five 6th – 10th November What’s On Daily Routines Literacy In reading this week, the preps have been focusing on noticing and stopping if a word doesn’t make sense, clapping the syllables in a word, changing your voice for talking marks and identifying adjectives. Grade Ones are learning to read to answer questions, using chunking to solve words, adding expression in their voices while reading and tuning into interesting words. Readers Look for your child’s reader in their book bags. These books are for home reading practice. Don’t forget to record each night’s reading in the students’ reading diaries! Vocab Books Vocab books contain lists of words to be read by sight (Prep) or spell (Year One/Two). Please practice these with your child. Diaries Your child’s diary is the main form of communication between school and home. Please initial on each day. Absences can be written in on the day as well. Fruit time Please send along a fresh piece of fruit at fruit time which is about everyday. Cutting up the fruit may help for difficult fruit like apples and oranges. This week, we have returned to narrative writing. We have identified the components of a narrative (characters, setting, problem and solution) and begun planning and writing our own creative pieces. We have chosen characters and settings and developed sizzling starts to hook our readers in! Maths The junior grades continued to look at time this week. The prep focus was to connect days of the week to familiar events and use terms such as yesterday, today and tomorrow. The grade ones and twos explored ways to describe duration using months, weeks, days and hours. We also looked at months and seasons and how to use calendars. Reminders MINI FETE! Be Sun Smart! Hats are compulsory in Term 4. Please ensure your child has a clearly named school hat to wear during outside times and sport sessions. We also recommend making sure your child has sunscreen in their bag that they can reapply during the day.
