Built by the Army in ~1941 Small boat repair facility to service the mine and anti-submarine fleet Taken out of military service in 1949 Transferred to NPS in 2001 Historic District on National Register of Historic Places Currently operated by Travis Air Force Base under Special Use Permit with NPS Marina Bar and grill Event venue Public and military programs Travis “Subtenants” Presidio Yacht Club: social organization with ~300 members, ~20 boats Tamalpais Outrigger Canoe Club

6 Site Goals and Objectives
GGNRA is interested in a partnership to develop a maritime recreation center in order to provide a mix of programs and services, including the following: Public educational programs that include maritime themes such as boatbuilding and sailing Public marina with a mix of slips and buoys that accommodates up to 60 boats primarily for day use and community programs Food and beverage services Event venue Small convenience store Public restrooms Complementary to other Fort Baker programs, services Rehabilitation of historic facilities

Project Guidance Fort Baker Environmental Impact Statement, 1999 “Use of the historic boat shop as waterfront center with community meeting and program space, and supporting food and beverage service, bicycle rental, restrooms, and other visitor services”. Conversion of the marina to provide public facilities for short term use.
