1 Veteran Education Benefits
Southern Crescent Technical College is dedicated to assisting Veterans in achieving their educational goals. Veteran Education Benefits are provided through: Montgomery GI Bill Survivors and Dependent Benefits Veteran’s Rehabilitation Benefits All of Southern Crescent Technical College’s credit programs are approved for Veteran’s Educational Benefits.

2 Veteran’s Certifying Officials
All Veterans using Military Education benefits must turn in their class schedule to the VA Certifying Officials each semester before they can be certified with Veterans Affairs. 3 Beginning the Application Process
All Veterans should apply online at We have computers in the Student Veterans Center (Mobile Unit 6A) – Griffin Campus. (Room A255) – Flint Campus We are also available to assist you.

4 What Documents Will I Need?
New Students: Your Certificate of Eligibility from the Veterans Affairs Department Your most recent DD214 Your class schedule Request certification of classes Returning Students: Updated personal information sheet

5 VA Benefits for Which I May Be Eligible
* Letter of Eligibility The Veterans Affairs Department will provide you with this letter once you have completed the application on the GI Bill website. This letter must be submitted to the VA Certifying Official at SCTC to begin receiving education benefits. This letter will confirm what chapter of VA Education Benefits VA has determined you are eligible to receive.

6 How Much Does VA Benefits Pay?
The amount of funding available depends on what the Veterans Affairs Department determines you are eligible to receive based on location, type, and time of service in the military.

7 How Does VA Education Benefits Get Paid?
1. Chapter 30 (MGIB) – VA Stipend paid directly to student 2. Chapter 31 – Vocational Rehabilitation – All fees, tuition, and books paid to SCTC. Veteran receives monthly stipend based on # of credit hours he/she is taking 3. Chapter 33 – Post 9/11 – Fees and tuition paid to the school based on Veteran’s % of eligibility. Book stipend and BAH are paid directly to the student. If not 100% eligible for Chapter 33 – Post 9/11, student will be responsible for fees and tuition not paid by VA 4. Chapter 35 – VA Dependents – VA Stipend paid directly to student

8 How Do I Certify I Am Attending College?
Once your registration status has been confirmed, SCTC will notify the Veteran’s Affairs Department of your enrollment status. Should a student’s enrollment status change, SCTC will notify the Veteran’s Affairs Department of the change, and the student may be liable for any funds already disbursed to the student in excess of current enrollment.

9 How Do I Verify My Enrollment?
If you are receiving the MGIB Chapter 30, Reserve GIBill, or REAP: Call the VA toll free Interactive Voice Response (IVR) line at VA-ECERT ( ) to verify your attendance. This should be done on the last day of each month. If you are receiving dependents (Chapter 35) benefits, call on the last day of each month to verify your attendance. Both college certification and student verification must be complete before benefits will be paid. Post 9/11 (Chapter 33) does not require verification.
