Why Important: Had Roman influences (hippodrome) at first then Greek.

Why important: Created reforms at wife’s (Theodora) encouragement

5. Byzantine Empire
What: famous for mosaics, Christian artwork (icons), and military conquests
Who: Belisarius and more
Why important: was the greatest empire until a plague and other failures ended it.
