1
Levels of Cellular Organization
2
Unicellular Organisms
Have just one cell that do all of it’s life processes No levels of organization Advantages- need fewer resources, can survive in different environments Disadvantages- organism dies if one cell dies
3
Multicellular Organisms
Cells are specialized (have a specific job) Larger Longer life span Need more resources to live Cells depend on each other to keep organism alive
4
Levels of Organization for Multicellular Organisms
Cell Tissue Organ Organ System Organism Smallest Biggest Least complex Most complex
5
tissue Groups of similar cells working together
4 types: nervous, epithelial, connective, and muscle Nervous- messaging system for your body Epithelial- protective and forms boundaries (skin) Connective- holds body together, provides support and nourishment (bones & blood) Muscle- movement
6
What is plant Tissue? Read p. 191 in your book and complete the Venn diagram with the people at your table. Then answer the “Visualize It!” question.
7
Organs Tissues working together to perform a specific function
Brainstorm a list of organs found in animals and plants Animals Plants
8
Organ Systems Groups of organs working together to perform a specific function Examples: digestive system, respiratory system
9
Structure and Function
Structure-how it is arranged Function- what it does Answer the “Visualize It!” question on p. 194

Table 1- p. 195 “Can’t Touch This” Table 2- p. 195 “Blow on Your Food”
Read and Explain to the class (How do the levels of organization effect organisms?) Table 1- p. 195 “Can’t Touch This” Table 2- p. 195 “Blow on Your Food” Table 3- p. 195 “Night Vision” Table 4- p. 196 “Visualize It!” Table 5- p. 197 “Visualize It!” Table 6- p. 197 “Delivering Nutrients” Table 7- p. 197 “Delivering Oxygen” Table 8- p. 197 “Removing Wastes”
