Five Things About Joseph That Moved Him From Slave To Prime Minister
Genesis 40-41: Five Things About Joseph That Moved Him From Slave To Prime Minister Genesis 40:1-8 Genesis 40:20-23 Genesis 41:1-12 Genesis 41:17-28 Genesis 41:32-46 READ Genesis 40:1-8 READ Genesis 40:20-23 READ Genesis 41:1-12 READ Genesis 41:17-28 READ Genesis 41:32-46 Studying Genesis

Joseph the Slave God had given him dreams of glory Instead he was sold as a slave Genesis 40 begins with him as a slave in prison! But he used his opportunities And was raised up to be Prime Minister of Egypt Since Rueben, Simeon and Levi were off the firstborn inheritance list, next is Judah. Joseph would actually receive the first born double inheritance (Gen 48:22), Judah would receive the seed promise

The Success of Joseph 1. Joseph remained faithful in all circumstances - Joseph was in prison for being righteous - He had no people of fellowship - But he remained faithful Serving his new “master” just as the old POINT: No matter the circumstances stay faithful Revelation 2:10 Even when it appears that there is no benefit to being faithful, be faithful; God is always present and working in your life Re 2:10 'Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

The Success of Joseph 2. Joseph did not focus on the past - Joseph had been betrayed by everyone - He does not come across as grudge holding - Instead he focused on what was to come POINT: Don’t focus on the past, look to the future Philippians 3:13 Don’t get caught up in all the bad things that have happened to you Php 3:13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,

The Success of Joseph 3. Joseph made opportunity by helping others - Egyptians were not kind to his people - Yet he helped two men in need Truthful even when it was bad news POINT: Be ready to help anyone in need Hebrews 13:2 Helping others even if it does not seem to benefit us can still benefit us. Heb 13:2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.

The Success of Joseph 4. Joseph gave God the glory - Joseph never took credit for God’s works - Even though others assumed it was him POINT: God is the source of all of our abilities 2 Corinthians 3:5 Never believe that your blessings are your own works. Remember Nebuchadnezzar 2Co 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God,

The Success of Joseph 5. Joseph made plans to succeed - Even though God used him - Joseph still needed to plan to succeed POINT: Prepare for the things that are to come Luke 14:28-33 Lu 14:28 "For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? 29 "Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, 30 saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish.' 31 "Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 "Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 "So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.

Joseph as a Model We learn from Joseph: To be faithful at all times, good and bad To avoid focusing on the bad To do good to all whenever an opportunity To credit God for our success To make plans and count costs for all things
