So what are we doing to meet these challenges and seize these opportunities? We’re Developing test site Working with UCC to make Lir a world class sandbox for proving new concepts Working with the Marine Institute and Smartbay to make Galway Bay the perfect place for device developers to learn about their technologies in a realistic environment Working to deliver the Atlantic Marine Energy Test site as a grid connected location for proving devices and components in extreme ocean conditions Test Site steering group

In addition to these services, the team at SmartBay Ireland carries out the necessary business development activities to continually attract users and develop funding for projects utilising the Test Site, and to secure financial resources and support our key clients the MI and SEAI.

7 TRANS-NATIONAL ACCESS in the JERICO-NEXT PROJECT
FORESEA: New European programme to fund open sea testing for ocean energy MARINET 2 offers periods of free-of-charge access to world-class R&D facilities & expertise. The primary objective of this activity is to provide coordinated ‘free of charge’ trans-national access to researchers or research teams from academia and industry to original coastal infrastructures operated by the JERICO NEXT consortium. This access opportunity is expected to help build long-term collaborations between users and JERICO-NEXT partners, and to promote innovation and transfer of know-how in the coastal marine sector. A total of €5.7m funding secured for the project to date ADD cable To date a total of 56 projects carried out at the test site, 12 industry led and 44 led by researchers Smartbay has successfully leveraged nearly €3.26M in EU public funds in ten EU projects €2.6M can be used by industry and researchers to deploy devices and sensors at the site FixO3 seeks to integrate European open ocean fixed point observatories and to improve access to these key installations for the broader community.

10 Positive Signs for Wind & Wave
Wind farms in the UK have set a national record over the past few days with an output surpassing 10GW, according to UK media, which refers to information provided by Drax Electric Insights, based on data from Elexon and National Grid. Industrialisation of Fixed Wind fast growth, increased investment, bigger wind farms, falling costs and new technologies BIGGER TURBINES are driving new project bids to record lows in Europe. McKinsey cites a recent bid in the Netherlands at $61.10 per megawatt-hour and a winning Danish bid of $55.94 per megawatt-hour.

11 The government of Canada has launched a call for expressions of interest for the C$200 million ($161 million) program for emerging renewables under which tidal energy projects are eligible to apply. Parkwind Oriel
