Do Now #15 Major Key: Finding the factor of the polynomial.
2
Do now reflection Did you meet the major key for the do now?
What do you still have question about polynomial division?
3
Polynomial Function (cubic Functions)
4
Polynomial Function in General Form
Polynomial Functions write Polynomial Function in General Form Degree Name of Function 1 Linear 2 Quadratic 3 Cubic Teachers: This definition for ‘degree’ has been simplified intentionally to help students understand the concept quickly and easily. The largest exponent within the polynomial determines the degree of the polynomial.
5
Explore Polynomials write Linear Function Quadratic Function
Cubic Function
6
Leading Coefficient write The leading coefficient is the coefficient of the first term in a polynomial when the terms are written in descending order by degrees. For example, the cubic function f(x) = -2x3 – 5x2 –2x+10 has a leading coefficient of -2.
7
End Behavior write End Behavior is defined as what a polynomial function does as it approaches positive or negative infinity.
8
Cubic Polynomials Look at the two graphs and discuss the questions given below in your groups and be ready to share out in 10 minutes. Graph B Graph A 1. How can you check to see if both graphs are functions? 2. How many x-intercepts do graphs A & B have? 3. What is the end behavior for each graph? 4. Which graph do you think has a positive leading coefficient? Why? 5. Which graph do you think has a negative leading coefficient? Why?
9
Graphing cubic functions
Graphing cubic function involve two things. Creating a table to get the sketch of the graph. Finding the x-intercepts (solutions)
10
Example y=x3+5x2+4x
11
Simplifying Rational expressions
12
Cooperative Group work
Simply Rational Expression As a group you will simplify rational expression to their simplest form on the table then come up with your result. Graphing Cubic As a group you will come up with at least 10 pairs of numbers for each graph. Also determine the solutions. Major Key Alert: Groups will be able to complete the worksheets with 70% accuracy.

Reflection Group simplifying
Rank yourself 1-4 with the concept of simplifying rational expressions and explain why. What will you do to get a better understanding? Group graphing Rank yourself 1-4 with the concept of graphing polynomials and explain why. What will you do to get a better understanding?
