Objective: Upon completion of this presentation you will:
learn a variety of study strategies for assessments take away organizational strategies that prevent your child from feeling overwhelmed and promote life-long success acquire strategies that help your child to comprehend what they are reading

Developing Smart Study Habits:
Set a regular study time and space Remove all distractions Have all the necessary supplies

Organizational Strategies
Have your child keep a planner Require them to write everything down *even if they have no homework.* Encourage your child to keep a large calendar at home that allows them to make long-term plans, such as a desk calendar or white board.

Reading Strategies Read with your child every day, even
after he/she becomes an independent reader. Jump-In Reading Enjoy reading a story with family members by allowing each person to read a portion of the story. This technique motivates your child to read a longer text. .

Reading Strategies Selective Underlining/Highlighting
Helps your child understands the story’s main idea and for organizing information from selections. Sticky-Note Discussions This works effectively after your child has read a selection, he/she uses sticky notes to mark the places he/she wants to talk about
