1 Before we get started… In your Reading Groups, please give a summary of each novel read…each member should give a summary of the novel (at least add information if reading the same book).

2 Analyzing CONFLICT… Analyze the type of conflict in each novel. How is it developed? How is the conflict connected to the plot/theme/purpose? Why did your author create that type of conflict?

3 Characterization Choose one person/character. First, explain HOW the person changes throughout the text. Then, explain WHY you think the author developed the person in this way.

4 SETTING…one scene Analyze the impact of one setting in the novel. WHY did the author choose this setting? HOW does it affect the people, plot, and theme? Explain.

5 SYMBOLISM Identify and explain the major symbols in the text. What does each symbol represent? Why is each symbol important? Explain.

6 THEME Explain one theme of the text. Then, explain HOW the author develops this theme.

7 ANALYZING KEY QUOTES Choose one quote that you believe is important to the text as a whole (record each quote). Each group member should choose a different quote. ONLY Explain the significance of your quote, and then discuss the various quotes within your group.

8 NARRATOR/POINT OF VIEW
Analyze the author’s choice of the narrator/point of view. Why do you think the author chose this narrator/point of view? How does the narrator/point of view impact the story? Explain.
