Bannerman High School TO ALL S1 AND S2. - PAIRED READING GROUP. We have some spots available in the paired reading group for anyone who would like to give it a try. The paired reading group is for anyone who wants to build up their confidence in reading, or reading aloud. Paired reading involves going to the library during three tutor times per week. There, you will meet with your friendly, helpful S6 volunteer (it will be the same person every day). You can pick any book you like and read it aloud together. You can discuss what is happening in the book, take a note of any new words you have learned, etc. There are no tests and no work! Just reading and chatting, to build up your confidence in reading. The surveys we have done with pupils who participated in this program last year showed that they felt their enjoyment of reading, their comprehension ability and their confidence in reading aloud had improved. Being a more confident reader can potentially help you to get better at lots of subjects in school. Reading for pleasure also has a lot of other benefits. Did you know that various studies suggest those who read for pleasure tend to have better mental health and go on to earn higher salaries? If you are interested, please speak to Ms Fitzpatrick in SS7. Respect Responsibility Ambition

IMMUNISATION PROGRAMME- IMPORTANT NOTICE Tuesday 5th February 2019 HPV - S1 Girls (1st Dose) HPV - S2-S6 Girls (Completing Dose) MMR – S1 Boys & Girls (Catch up) These will be taking place in the Staffroom and involves all S1 Girls and some S2/S3/S4/S5/S6 pupils. All S1 girls have been issued with documentation for the S1 HPV vaccinations via their tutor class. All catch up pupils will be notified via tutor once this information has been received by the school. As you will see the vaccination programme has increased greatly over the last few years with the introduction of new vaccines and the primary method of delivery is through schools. To limit disruption to learning and teaching they are trying to limit these to two visits per year which will include the main vaccination programme and catch up. Thank you for your assistance and support with this very important event.
